I live an a 4 floor brick apartment, is more than 30 years old, can it survive a large earthquake of 7.9 or8-9?
I live in Los Angeles, and one day they keep reminding us that a big earthquake will hit, and I live up to the 4th floor. I am scared that is might collapse
i’d guess that there’s a good chance it won’t survive.
building codes 30 years ago were quite different.
it would be good to realize that the brick is probably only on the outside, and it not used for strength.
i’d not want to be standing close to the front, or side of the building.
that would likely be a mistake.
i think the inside will stand up longer, but i don’t know how much longer.
in fact, it depends on how close you are to the epicenter of the quake.
if you’re in the middle, you better run.
if you’re a hundred miles away, you might be okay.
