Multiple earthquakes,what does it mean?
Hi,
I am in Costa Rica right now.We usually have a lot of small shaking but today we had a 6.1 and that was scary. It started on Wednesday,we had a small one, today the big one at around 1pm,now is 5am a and all this time literally every 15 min or so you can feel the building shaking for a few seconds(yahoo is driving me crazy with their news story about only 4 aftershocks…).
I know aftershocks usually comes with this but so many?
Any explanation?Should I be worry?
I have a small child and live in a crappy building, should I leave for the next day or so?
Thank you in advance
Earthquakes are not at all predictable. It does not behave uniformly at all places at all occasions. The after shocks or fore shocks depends upon several known and unknown factors. That depends upon the amount of accumulated stress at tectonic boundary, the side surface condition of tectonic plate about it roughness, the geological condition of that place and all.No body can tell only there will be 4 after shocks for an earthquakes.I am the one closely monitoring the seismic activity in our country. Close observation has helped me to issue the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our coast and I have also issued denial of Tsunami warning on several other occasions. Some time we get very small shaking before major earthquake takes place. Some times it is reverse. Nothing is accurately predictable. However learn how you should behave during earthquakes. Many person from California contacted me for my advice. You can types A.Ganapathy India in Google and read my best answers that will help to save you from disasters.
