A magnitude-8.8 earthquake hit Chile early morning Saturday, six weeks after a magnitude-7 quake jolted Haiti up north in the Caribbean. The death toll in Haiti is estimated at 220,000 while that of the Chilean tremor remains below 1,000. Why the difference? Chile was prepared while Haiti was not.
