How can one be sure that such things dont happen in tribal areas of India or during tsunami like situations?
In the name of relief work missionaries are smuggling children out of Haiti taking advantage of the earthquake.

Is it not shameful? What do you think? Do you think such things may hv been happening in remote tribal areas of India or may be in the guise of relief work during natural disasters like tsunami?
Do we Indians have the awareness to prevent such attrocities by the so-called men of religion?
Why Haiti and tsunami? Are you not reading in newspapers how child trafficking is going on across India from poor states like Bihar into Chennai and other cities? There has been quite a significant number of cases under investigation and a few arrests have been made also. Mainly children are bought with promise of free boarding and education, or promise of jobs, from poor parents and “employed” for begging / drug peddling etc. (If they are taken to tourist areas, like Mahabalipuram etc there is demand from pedophiles – mainly among foreign tourists – etc also, for good wages / commission for agents, but due to greater police vigilance, following some exposures from places like Goa, the anti social activities in general are lying low in these places, for some time. And they would resume the activity after sometime, as usual, due to demands for their ’services’ and the known weakness of the enforcement staff at ground levels).
If things can happen in towns and cities, where we expect police intensity to be more, child help organisations active and helplines exist to report, how can we rule out the same in remote and rural areas with much less police and support organisations?
But the rural / tribal communities are more cohesive and not like in cities and can protect children if they knew motives of Agents posing as Missionaries etc, to make a business out of the poverty and deprival of some people.
Many NGOs have taken up education of people about these abuses as per occasional articles appearing in media, but I do not know if they are adequate.
The modern age opens more risks and abuses than protection and support for the vulnerable population. You should be more concerned about increasing drug abuses in schools and colleges! There was only evil of secret smoking among kids in higher secondary levels onwards, but now drinking and drugging and all vices abound due to poor parent supervision (both parents employed and busy otherwise or parents themselves being ultra modern and given to drink habit etc).
So it is futile to find fault with the crime world when the average citizens are themselves given to weaknesses of sorts and a provocative media provide the abundant inspirations for misadventures.
