Reconstruction! An Opportunity to fix what’s Broken in Haiti!

Reconstruction! An Opportunity to fix what’s Broken in Haiti!

Earthquakes and their effects!

An earthquake of the magnitude (7.0) which struck Haiti recently, could prove to be as devastating and or deadly in any other city of the world, depending on where the epicenter of that quake was located. As its’ name suggest “an earthquake” actually causes the ground to shake and or tremble violently and in some instances it splits the earth open!

It is a known fact, that there are no building in this world that is truly a 100% earthquake proof, for unlike storms, hurricane or tornados which strike at the exposed areas of a building; earthquakes strike at the foundation of all structures; thereby making them more susceptible to damage, whenever one occurs.

Constructing structurally sound buildings!

This should not prevent us from making every effort to construct structurally sound buildings prior to or in the aftermath of this type of disaster. Rather, it should be our guiding light; bearing in mind that even with the knowledge being brought to bear on the prediction of this type of event; there is no precise science available to say exactly where or when the next quake will occur! In fact in the case of the Haitian people another event of this magnitude may not wait for another 200 years to occur.

Once in a lifetime opportunity!

With this most unfortunate turn of events, the world has been given a once in a lifetime opportunity, to seriously develop this very poor, impoverished, under-developed and seemingly forgotten country; into a profitable and productive part of the western hemisphere of nations. In fact, equipped with the right infrastructure and facilities to properly care for and serve its’ people, Haiti could become the show piece and or standard by which other countries could be modeled!

Unity necessary for charting the right course forward!

With this in mind, greater efforts should be placed by the powers involved in Haiti, on the passing and implementation of new legislations, regulations and guidelines governing property ownership and usage. This should include the designing and drafting of comprehensive development plans for all towns and cities as well as for all necessary infrastructure, such as road, telecommunications, electricity, educational and health facilities, government offices, etc, throughout the country.

This re-drafting should not be done in isolation, by the Haitian government or the members of the coalition of nations, multilateral bodies, international donor organizations or private citizenry presently supporting the recovery efforts. But rather, it should be a collective effort by all concerned, including those who were involved in the fight for Haiti’s development long before this terrible disaster happened.

Guaranteeing the safety and longevity of the investment!

This would support the effort to have all Haitians working cohesively together with the international partners, to rebuild for themselves a nation of which they can all be proud. In return, it would guarantee the safety and longevity of the investment being made in Haiti as a country as well as in the welfare and wellbeing of its’ people. It would also help us in the community of nations to hold our heads up high with satisfaction, knowing that we have finally done what is good and right for the country and people of Haiti.

Missing this once in a lifetime opportunity is a risk that this hemisphere and the world at large cannot afford!

About the Author

Who am I?

  • I am a people person and as such I am a big believer that there is good in everyone and even though it is very hard to see it in some persons at times, it doesn’t mean that it is not there! I believe that making friends is a treasured art, while keeping the friends you have made is a patient practice; however I honestly believe that having true friends is really a gift from God!

My life’s motto!

  • I have lived my life by a motto that has remained as profound to me today as it was yesterday, which simply states that “What the mind has conceived and the heart truly believes, hard work, dedication and commitment will achieve.” As such I am a firm believer that, if we all apply our energy, intellect, resources, talents, time, strength and will to the accomplishment of our dreams; then dreams delayed would not be dreams denied!

Profession!

  • I am a building contractor by profession with a knack for designing, drafting and constructing spacious, high quality homes at affordable prices throughout the Island of Jamaica! Having been in this field for several years, I have watched the real estate market contract considerably over the last five years, due mainly to the worldwide recession and the continued fallout being experienced by the persons who form my main clientele base!
  • It is for this reason that I am seeking to find partners with whom I can form workable and mutually beneficial business alliance and partnerships; within the Caribbean Islands and throughout the North and South American region!
  • For further information on the projects we have done and the services our company provides, feel free to visit us at www.abcress.net

Religious conviction!

  • As a Christian, one of my deepest desires is to see the word of God being disseminated to God’s people in simple, clear, concise and practical terms; with the bowels of compassion, fervor of spirit and depth of conviction depicted and demonstrated by Christ and his disciples throughout their ministry! This is possible, and achievable by all who seek to share the word of God with others, especially those who have the responsibility of caring for the “Christian flock or a congregation of believers” whether literally or in cyber space!

Things I get the greatest pleasure and or satisfaction doing!

  • Spending quality time caring, counseling, hanging out and sharing with my children and their friends! Watching my children grow from conception to the young adults that they are today, knowing that I continue to play a unique part in the moulding of these young lives for the future
  • Sharing the word of God with others and see their face light up as the scripture becomes clear and real to them! Reading and studying the word of God and basking in the enlightenment and joy it brings! Helping people in whatever way or manner the Lord allows me to and seeing their joy at having been able to use whatever they got to their advantage!
  • Visiting a site earmarked for a construction project, doing the necessary checks including consulting with the client, then set about designing the type of building they require! Seeing the smile light up their face as they view the completed building plans, but more than anything else, hearing the laughter and feeling the joy they experience when we hand them the keys to their completed home or project!
  • Working on my backyard farm and garden, including clearing, partitioning and preparing the land! Planting and caring for the various crops throughout the growth process, then reaping and sharing the harvest with my family, neighbors and friends!
  • Cooking, catering and entertaining persons visiting my home! Holding a good party for a member of my family and or throwing a surprise party for my friends!

Hobbies!

  • I love to watch and listen to news; read and write various articles; spend time with my children; getting to know their friends; cooking and entertaining; watching and playing sports and other types of family oriented games; watching television and going to the movies and plays; listening and dancing to music; attending concerts and or recitals; going for drives and or visiting new places and or trying new things; relaxing at the beach, at the park or on a camping trip; visiting relatives and friends  or just relaxing quietly at home!
