why is the threat of Yellowstone and Long Valley calderas not talked about in the media at all?
why does the US government and the media refuse to acknowledge the dangers of Yellowstone National park and Long Valley Caldera? Is it just too politically incorrect to inform US citizens that they are directly in a pyroclastic flow line? Or that their houses will collapse in the event of an eruption? Or that its the next gigantic Vesuvius on the planet?
I think citizens should be better informed about it. They already determined that there is a lava blob the size of LA underneath Yellowstone. the crust has risen.. fumes are all over the place, earthquakes, etc.I mean its pretty obvious that it could potentially erupt. Esp since they closed off that one section because the ground was getting too hot!
long valley is one of the highest threats on the volcano watchlist (along with yellowstone). But these two volcanos (if they erupted) would pale in comparison to the ones they have on the very top of their list (like shasta and what have you).

Long Valley was in the news a lot when it appeared the magma was moving underneath it, but now the threat does not appear imminent. It’s hard to get excited about something that may only happen every few hundred thousand years. A better question to ask is why isn’t the flooding danger to the Sacramento River Delta in the news? It’s thought be many to be in even more danger than New Orleans was before Katrina and it would affect the entire state of California’s water supply.
