Is it better to go outside or stay inside during an earthquake?
I live in a 2 story house, with a small backyard, maybe 5 or 6 yards long, a garage, and an alley with trees and power lines. During an earthquake, is it better to be outside in the backyard, or inside on the first floor or second floor? Please give a source too. Thanks.
Actually it is best not to dive under a table. Remember the rule of triangles. Next to a sturdy table would be better. When rubble falls in a building, the space is more likely to be next to something rather than under it. In a really bad earthquake, you are not likely to make it outdoors. Move to a solid part of the house like one of the inner doorways. If you are in bed, carefully roll off. If the ceiling falls, it will fall on the bed and probably leave an area next to the bed with some space to breath and hopefully survive.
